We hope you enjoy this post and we look forward to hosting you in one of our rooms & suites.

6 Beaches In Malta To See (& Explore) While On Holiday

Paradise Bay

Kicking off the list is the turquoise sandy beaches of Paradise Bay in the north of Malta, this beach lays in the peninsula overlooking the islands of Comino and Gozo.

Its turquoise seas, together with the combination of golden sand and rocky seabed, makes Paradise bay ideal for snorkeling around.

Golden Bay

Golden Bay is located on the North West of Malta and is a blue flag beach with basic amenities in place including toilets, waste bins, and trained life guards.

Although it is a busy beach, it is surrounded mostly by the natural landscape of fields and high hills where one may enjoy the view of the watch towers built by the Knights of St John.

This beach is also popular to enjoy trekking around in winter to experience the beauty of the surrounding area. In summer, it is popular for water sports activities including diving, snorkeling, paragliding and jet skies and more…

Ramla l-Hamra

Ramla l-Hamra is one of the biggest beaches located in Gozo and it is located at the bottom of the valley in Gozo between Xaghra and Nadur.

The beach has interesting historical remains at the bottom of the sea close to the shore which includes a wall that was built by the Romans.

It is advisable to be careful when swimming out since the remains of the wall are within reach. It is also unique due to its reddish colored sand.

Overlooking Ramla l-Hamra is the Calypso Cave, in which, according to the ‘Odyssey’, which is an ancient Greek poem attributed to Homer, Odysseus was kept as a ‘prisoner of love’ for seven years.

Wied iz Zurrieq

Wied iz Zurrieq is one of the more rocky beaches in Malta, which is at the end of a valley, hence its name in Maltese ‘wied’.

From Wied iz Zurrieq you can take a boat drive to Blue Grotto which are caves inside the cliffs where different shades of blue, turquoise and purple is reflected in the sea through the sunlight going into the caves.

Wied iz Zurrieq was traditionally a fishing village where English servicemen and their families visited and were taken to the Blue Grotto by the fisherman’s boats.

To this day, it’s still a popular tourist location for diving and swimming.

Fond Ghadir

Close to Intercontinental Hotel (5 minutes by car) is Fond Ghadir, a beautiful rocky spot in Sliema overseeing the open sea.

There are various amenities including Gelateria, cafeteria, beach club and security to keep the place safe. It is ideal for those who enjoy swimming in the deep sea with no sand or algae within reach.

There is also a natural pool which is connected to the open sea and is continuously topped up by fresh sea water, and its shallow depth makes it ideal for children or teenagers to swim in.

St George’s Bay

St George’s Bay is a Blue Flag beach just 50 meters away from our hotel; InterContinental Malta.

Part of this beach is reserved for Intercontinental Guests (this is for our exclusive beach club) and is managed by the Hotel to ensure cleanliness and customer satisfaction.

This beach is also close to other amenities including restaurants, bowling alley, cinema, shopping center, nightclubs and more.

It is also close to main transport centers including taxi companies and public transport terminal.
